Hi Everyone,

I went to the MLB Umpire clinic last Saturday . It was held

In Compton Calif. It was a great clinic. I enjoyed the day

and learned some new things that will help me in the

future. If you every have a chance to go to one of these

clinics I suggest that you go.

I completely concur. A great bunch of instructors. The only thing I wish was simply put more time. I know, I know everyone always says that, however.... I would prefer to have more field time, or situation time then have "war story Q & A" however I know this is part of the appeal of these types of clinics.

I was at this clinic and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pretty cool to work in the cage with Gary Cederstrom who happened to be on the plate for game 6 of the WS this year. I wish there would have been time to hear about the game from his perspective, but with 140 students in attendance, there isn't much time for anything other than working the drills.

My favorite station was working in B/C for pickoffs, steals and double plays. The footwork is complex, and I imagine it takes a ton of repetition to perform those mechanics in a game without thinking about it.

All the instructors were great, but I have to say that Charlie Reliford and Bruce Froemming were a kick.

This camp usually is held prior to the MLBUC that is a 1 week camp held at the same facilities. I attended this years MLBUC and it was outstanding! The instructors, including current MLB Umpires, MLB Supervisors and PBUC evaluators were top notch! The week long camp, includes class room rules instruction, 2 man mechanics instructions, Controlled games, video recording of your plate work in the cages, and evaluations by MLB umpires during a live college or high school scrimmage worked by the students. Each evening, the students had a "club house" session with MLB umpires where students could ask any questions they like. From this camp MLB will provide a scholarship to 9 students to attend one of the 3 umpire schools. I highly recommend this camp to anyone looking to take their game to the next level! Here is the group photo from this years class:
