Where did he go?

A while back I was working a Pitching Machine Game.

Before Each inning I make sure that there are 9 players on the field before I call "Play". So I do this and everyone is there so we play on.

A ball gets hit to Center field and when I follow the ball I notice only a left and right fielder. No Center Fielder.

Turns out he had to go "Potty" And left through a gate on the fence sometime during the inning and no one noticed.

Love those kidde ball games. The League has fought me when I told them they don't need umpires for those games. Put a potted plant and a flipping coin on first base, and let 'em go....

Notice I said Almost. The only coach I have had to EJ in the last year was a pitching machine coach.

IMHO - any league that uses 'real' umpires on pitching machine games has it's collective head up it's collective a$$.

Add to that any league that uses umpires of any kind on a T-Ball field.

I saw an ad a couple of seasons ago for a T-Ball Championship Tournament! Seriously!?! T-Ball?!? Come on!!!

Several years back I umpired in a coach pitch tournament. It was interesting how competitive the parents were. This was also the tournament where I had a mom tell me that at that level (all-stars) it's serious. :wave:

For the past few weekends I've been the king of machine pitch and coach pitch. It pays pretty well. Next weekend I have 4 coach pitch tournament games and we're working them 2 man.

At first this surprised me, then I remembered working my previous coach pitch tournament with 2-man on the finals. There was a rule that the runners had to be at least halfway to the next base when the ball entered the infield or they were required to go back (this was for obtaining extra bases). Having one person to watch the ball and the other watch the runners made things easier.

I may have mentioned it before but it an overthrow to third that UNintentionally hit the 3b coach. I had nothing, live ball. the DC wanted a dead ball.

I said no. Then he said that sameday they would get an Umpire that knows the rules. :wave:
