Get the athletic cut, the western pockets look a lot like patch pockets and is a bad look on an umpire.

Are you over 150 lbs. and under 70 years of age? If so, then go with the pleats.

I was doing a college game several years ago, and had to a coach who decided that he needed to get dumped. I was wearing western pocket base slacks, and on his way out of the stadium, he laughed and said "Nice pants Tom Jones". Of course I thanked him, and told him to have a nice day before going back to my position. After the game, the pants went to goodwill.
