I've read a couple of news articles claiming the number of EJs in the pros has gone up significantly this year. There is even a story that Hernandez was removed from West's crew as not to have 2 "instigators" on the same crew.

Now obviously I haven't seen all the EJs this year, but those I have seen with very few exception have been legit.

  1. Do you agree there has been a significant rise in the number of EJs?
  2. If so do you think it is the fault of the umpires?

I agree that there has been a rise in coach rattyness this year. It looks like rec. league out there to me. It seems like every close call is subject to a coach or player rampage. The balk thread that was posted today is evidence of that. Seems they can't even call a balk anymore without having to toss a coach. IDK, maybe it's just me.

I completely agree with you.

Shows in this play that the rats have a chip on their shoulders too. They can’t accept responsibility for their mistakes. Theriot totally came off the bag! There was no reason for him to attack the umpire like that! Definitely grounds for ejection! Great call by Muchlinski!

He even gave him 9 lives, and then some. Of course, no baseball analyst will cue this hilight up and create a compilation of players being the aggressor. If anything, they will rag on Muchlinski for not giving the neighbourhood play out.

Warren,

The MLB Umpire Ejection Fantasy League states that through July 16 of this year there have been 121 ejections. Through July 16 of 2010 there were 102 ejections.

Pete

If you go to their site and click on the "Historical Data" page (I think; I can't access at work), there's a comment of the number of ejections by month for the past few years.

And due to Torre running things, they expect to get away with it, and just run around and say the umps are more aggressive and will not listen. Yes, listen to their nonsense. Just get run and shut up. It's all part of baseball. Quit whining and complaining. If you think the ump missed the call or you want to save a player, hurry out their and say the magic words and get run. For the amount they make, getting run is like buying a soda. And like someone will probably allude to, it is highly rumored that the clubs pay their mickey mouse fines anyway. Either put up or shut up, and tell the whiny players the same thing. Quit expecting (who me) that you should receive a get out of jail free card every time you argue with the umps. Wimps.
