I'd have been tempted to say, "Yeah, by all means, let's spotlight two bad calls by me that had zero impact on the game. By the way, did you guys notice that the Angels pitching got WAXED tonight?!? 13 hits! 10 runs! There's your story, boys. Though I guess it is a story when we get 3 botched calls in one game, since it happens so rarely."

What are you talking about? Blow-outs happen all the time!! If you need proof of that just go down to your local Tuesday night Slow-pitch softball beer league game and check the scores. I'm sure one's happening down there. Now three missed calls, two of which by the same umpire who's been in the game for almost 30 years and is rated one of major league baseball's best umpires, by God, that's news!!

I've seen quite a few classy Quote from Reggie Jackson over the umpiring and more specifically toward Tim McClelland one of which is in the article:

“Today was not a good day for the umpires. But the third-base umpire is a great umpire.”

Another I saw today was:

McClelland is recognized as one of the great umpires. No doubt. So if one of your best umpires in baseball has a bad night, I do not hold it against him.

You're right Warren, good article. However, I can't help but notice that it's a New York Times writer taking up the cause of the beaten down cause.

You don't want to see what the LA Times has to say about it, though they did mention that non of the missed calls led to anyone scoring.
