Taking the case to court is way overdoing it, but IMO the Commish made a very bad call and needs to look at the rules again. What's this crap about it not mattering how they touch the plate, just as long as they do? That opens up the door for a whole world of problems from then on. I don't call games in Dixie League thankfully, because otherwise I'd be telling players myself to touch home plate. Apparently in Dixie League all that matters is that they touch it, no matter who assists them. And oh yeah, that is a rule interpretation coming from the commish, so he wouldn't be able to tell me to quit telling them to touch a base, because it's fine according to his interpretation of the rule. What's next? The hands are part of the bat?

Apologies for the rant, but ignorance like that gets on my nerves.

:angel4: it's interesting how this discussion took a different direction over at ABUA. summarized, the rule only says the 1st & 3rd base coach are not allowed to help the runners...there is nothing saying other players can't.

This is true, and possibly means that the rule of players not being able to assist a runner falls into the "myths" catagory. I'm sure everyone heard about the softball player that was carried around the bases by the opposing team. Let's say it was a baseball game (not NCAA rules, but OBR). What if the player's own team carried him around the bases? Technically legal by the rules, although a substitute runner would be allowed to take over if it had been due to some injury similar to the softball player.
