Awesome Deal! Wilson West Vest Umpire Leg Guards 16'-17' WTA3409WV16-17
TX-UIC replied to celt62's topic in Umpire Equipment
Best pair of Shin Guards I have ever had... just drill out the rivets and it comes right off... -
Yes to qualify for Varsity you need to take it by 2/15
-
The rules test in TX is easier than the NFHS test...
-
Wow really didn't think that this would get so intense... I really disagree with what our State Association has said but... I don't write them I just enforce them so... so if you umpire in Texas it is Legal...

This was my logic... but by the TASO State Rules interpreter.. Crew Chief above has the correct ruling. Below Crew Chief Posted 05 December 2011 - 05:29 PM Double Johnsons confuses the issue. F2 is due up to bat, PH1 comes in to bat. He singles, at this point many coaches will ask for a CR on the premise that the sub is going to catch. This is what the BRD is referencing and is illegal, the original F2 is still in that position until somebody actually catches. Now if he reenters the original F2 then certainly he cane be CRed for. If the original F2 did not have reentry rights there can be no CR for anybody, there is no catcher at the time.

This is the correct ruling...
-
Team A's catcher, Johnson, is pinch-hit for by S1. S1 gets a hit, and the coach of Team A re-enters the catcher, Johnson for S1. With Johnson re-entered the coach can now use a courtesy runner for Johnson. True / False... why?

It is as easy as cleaning them... get the body sweat salt off them they will last!

These are the best shin guards on the market ... bar none Looks like a lot of work to change almost nothing... 1. change the rivets? was this for looks? No one sees them unless you wear them on the outside. 2. Isn't the knee cap suppose to be a floating knee cap, 3. If you take care of metal straps they don't rust... I did take my metatarsal foot flap off though Sees to be a waste of time and money and i know that a little TLC after each use keeps these in great shap.

This logic doesn't make sense at all. How about your organization keep balks as live balls? Then, when the Fed eventually changes it, you can use the same line. Your organization not agreeing with the rule isn't a reason for them to not do it. My organization (and most in the state) doesn't agree with some of the uniform rules the state has; however, we're instructed to follow the rules, as disregarding them looks less professional than actually fighting to have them changed. There's no real answer, other than to defend myself. As evidence of my character, I'll show that there have been times I've removed bats and helmets from the game (possibly from the game in question). However, imagine the same happened in YOUR game. This is close to the transcript that would occur: Lawyer: Did you check the equipment? You: No, I didn't. Lawyer: Do you recognize this (shows a copy of the rule book that was in effect the year of the incident)? You: Yes, that's a Fed rule book. Lawyer: Could you read the highlighted passage, please (flips to the page that details the bat and helmet check)? You: (reads the passage) Lawyer: So, you didn't check the equipment as detailed in the rule book? Good luck after that point. I'm happy the equipment check is gone. I felt it was a waste of time and it opened up a liability door on the umpires that should be squarely on the coach and school. However, I never ignored it, even when my partner tried to talk me out of it. Lawyer: I understand from you previous testimony, as an umpire, you did not enter the dugout to check equipment, correct? Me: That is correct sir. Lawyer: How did you verify the equipment used was legal? Me: At the plate conference, in from of my partner and the opposing Head Coach, I asked if his team was properly and legally equipped by NFHS rules and regulations. Lawyer: What was his reply? Me: Yes they are. Lawyer: How is the coach going to know if his team is is equipped properly? Me: They are given the same rule book that I am. They are also required to attend NFHS meetings that cover equipment, rules and all current points of emphasis. Lawyer: Thank you for your time... Lawyer: So you asked if the team was properly equipped by "NFHS Rules and regulations?" Umpire: Yes Lawyer: so you expect the coaches and teams to abide by the rules Umpire: Yes Lawyer: So you as the official choose not to abide by the rules? but you enforce them? Umpire: No I call and abide by the rules and enforce them. Lawyer: All of them or just the ones you want to? Umpire: All Lawyer: So you check the bats and helmets per the rules in the book? Good luck you lose... As far as hidden equipment coming out after the check (thank god it is gone) you just have to state to the court: "We check the bats and helmets that were presented to us when we asked for them at the beginning of the game" You were wrong not to check them and not only you would have been in trouble but so would have your Association Board, the Districts for overriding a "safety" rule, and coaches. So if your Association thinks that the FPSR is not a good rule you will not call it? Enforce the "safety" rules you are really protecting yourself when you do...

Why? Exactly... Why? If my partner did that or anyone in our association was guilty of this they would stand on their own and be responsible for their own actions. He won't take it off... eject him... very simple hope it wasn't something of value ($ or emotional) As I stated before you have no right to do that... again just eject him! I do not believe any member of TASO would rip a helmet apart or a chain off of a kids neck. I have called many games with guys from chapters all over the state and can not picture that happening. Are you in the Alliance chapter? Just curious. Yes I am with the Alliance Chapter...

Just something you might want to consider if this happens again (if you can).... once you suspend the game and get everyone in a shelter (generally dugout is not the best choice), tell everyone you will be back in 30 min to restart the game and find a place you can wait out the storm away from everyone... This releases you of the responsibility keeping players, coaches inside the shelter and no one can chirp at you about restarting the game early. I know a lot of places don't have someplace to hangout but this is what I try to do... even to the point of going to my car...

Why? Basically because I am an A-hole! Plain and simple. After seeing the cheap bastards and idiots keep using them I decided to make sure they can't. I have not heard a word from any coach or player except for the Little League mommy since I started doing that in 2007. I guess I tear up three or four a year I haven't even had an incident worthy of a warning in any game where I ripped a helmet up pre-game. Sort of sends a message that I am serious I guess. I actually do a lot of smiling, chuckling and "Wowing!" on good plays, funny plays and close plays and have a general all around good time in 99% of the games I work no matter how big a deal the game is. I am always hustling and having fun working a game, especially the plate. Besides, I believe most would rather have me destroy an already unusable under any rule helmet than toss a player or coach/manager,. I am sort of saving them from themselves. I haven't seen a relatively new helmet cracked. It is always older, cheaper, really scratched up ones that have cracks. I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one. Well the best part now is that we don't have to check them in pre-game anymore... but if you see one on the field take care of it.... I guess you will have to keep up your strength but ripping telephone books in half now... have a good one!

These are the best... have had these for 5 years and will not wear any other... they are expensive but fit like a glove, comfortable with LOTS of protection... http://www.ump-attire.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=A3409&Category_Code=SHIN-GUARDS

Why would anyone think that they have the right to destroy another persons property... throw it out... if it comes back in the game toss the coach and/or the player... that will get your point across. Have done it and never had a problem.
-
Careful here. What you say applys to the batter hit by the batted ball but doesnt apply to a batter hit by the pitch at least in most associations that I know of. Yes..
-
I am good with the ejection.. but would have gotten on my partners back for coming to me on that... first of all if I would have seen it hit him I would have killed the ball right away... but since I did not... conclusion is that "I didn't see it..." as simple as that. Plate guy: "Coach it did not hit him" and after if the coach wanted me to get help... Plate Guy: "There is no reason to go to my partner as if he would have seen the pitch hit the batter he would have killed it right then... so we are done.... lets play" From there anything he says or does is on him... your play guy deflected the call and put it in your lap and threw you under the bus

In summer ball my tolerance goes wwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy down for stuff like that. I might have dumped him just because of the "threat" he gave to F4 and if I didn't do it then I would have done it, if after I gave him the warning and didn't shut up...especially in a U13 game... I would have let his coach deal with the aftermath and IF... I let him still stay after round 2 and he still had something to say (you are very generous) there would have been absolutely no question he would have been gone. This kid is 13 why would you let him get away with that....? Just my 2 cents...

It's finally here... and looking forward to it!!

Annual... Game Fees Question... Let's see who got a raise or not
TX-UIC replied to TX-UIC's topic in High School
WOW... that is a huge difference between a single and a DH you only get $15 more for another 2-3 hrs... maybe you need to rotate crews to work the second games of the DH then everyone gets $70/gm... maybe that would get them to buck up the extra cash for the DH... -
Not so hot with my 8310 Blackberry...
-
Ok... 1st HS scrimmage this year... 10 out of 16 bats non compliant to the new NFHS bat rules concerning composite bats...

It can also work in the other direction... is the glass half empty or half full... Each organization no matter what side can get this info pretty easily... a few quick calls and well you have what you need... -
Wow... belt/belly button.. you must like long games... call the letters and open it up a little.... you will be fine for 13u
