  1. What is the criteria for a ball to be intentionally dropped? Does it have to be in his the glove first? Can a player guide the ball down with the back of his glove?

    Bizarre situation

If the ball rolls into the bat in fair territory and remains fair it is a live ball and play on. If the bat strikes the ball a second time in fair territory then it is interference and the batter is out. In federation rules it must be intentionally striking the ball a second time to have an out.
  5. Thanks. That clears it up for me.
  6. Need a Fed ruling. Runner jumps over a fielder ( who is not lying on the ground) to avoid a tag. I know that he is out but is the ball live or dead? The Fed rule book seems to have conflicting information on this. One part says ball is dead but then another section states the ball remains alive unless interference is called. So which one is it and which situations would it be automatic interference? And thanks in advance.
  7. What is the proper mechanic for signaling that a runner is out for being out of the basepath?

    Time or Force???

Thanks---I edited my post to ask about the possibility of an apparent 4th out appeal in this situation. Possible??

    Time or Force???

Thanks. So when he is scrambling back and the fielder does not mention a missed base we will have to assume that the defense is making a play and not an appeal---is that correct? Suppose the runner is well past second and, realizing he missed the base now comes scrambling back?.. Is the fielder now making an obvious appeal if he tags the runner? lastly---if the runner was tagged out on the time play for the third out could the defense then make an appeal for the missed base as an apparent 4th out?
  13. Saw this yesterday and it got me thinking.. ( Although in the game the runner did not miss 2B) R1 and R3. O.B.R. Two outs. Batter hits a base hit to CF but--because R1 was very slow-- e F7 was able to throw to 2B in an attempt to retire R1 R1 beats the throw but misses the base and is slides well passed it. R1 is then tagged while scrambling back to the base. Question #1--Is this a force or timing play??? Question #2---Does R1 have to be tagged or can the fielder just step on 2B for the appeal???
  14. Thanks guys. I saw this play on the internet and just wanted a clarification Thanks for the replies--and the link was very helpful..
  15. Batter hits hard ground ball to F1. Ball is deflected off F1's knee and ball is going towards the first base line. Pitcher has to chase the ball to the foul side of the first base line and when he does pick it up the B/R ( who is in the proper runners lane) runs into the pitcher. Would this be considered obstruction by F1 or interference by the B/R?? (Then again--also suppose that B/R was not in the proper running lane when F1 picks up the ball and they collide??) I know that a fielder is only protected when chasing a batted ball deflected by himself for a step and a reach, but does this apply if the original fielder gains possession of the ball??
  16. In O.B.R. R2 slides into third because F5 pretends to have the ball and is getting ready to make a tag--but he does not have the ball. The ball is actually in right field but is now coming back into the infield, which causes R2 to remain at third base. Could the BU award R2 home on type 2 obstruction???

    Foot on Foot

Is he in contact with his base? No--his foot is on the fielders foot, which is on the base.

    Foot on Foot

If a runner is tagged on a base but he has his foot on top of the fielders foot is he out? And yes--I have seen this happen twice so far.
