I have a Champion hard shell chest protector that i am considering upgrading the harness on. I can not afford a new chest protector so want to make this one more comfortable and effective. Thanks for your help and opinions on the best options for an upgrade.

My association did not give patches and pretty much told me i had to by shirts from them with the patches already on them. i just want a patch or two to put on some shirts I already bought before I started with them. I am tired of wearing the same shirt every game.

Does anyone know where to get the VHSL patch for baseball umpiring shirts?

I have a Champion Body Armour CP that i use and it does a good job except that the shoulder cups shift around under my shirt and have left me a little vulnerable to shoulder shots. Has anyone used this CP and what modification could/ should i do to help with this?

I personally speak to each catcher before their defensive half of the 1st. Then i usually am just answering questions they bring up. i have only been doing JV games this season so usually it is something like "was that low" or "was that on the swing or pitch" but i have had one or two that want to chat and I keep it to a minimum just because i want to move the game along. I see nothing wrong with having a little chat with the catcher as long as it is not distracting either the player or the ump.

I had this come up the other day and the umpires had a 2-3 min. discussion about the rule. So...in NFHS baseball is this legal or not as of 2016?

I was playing in a rec league slow pitch softball game last night and saw for the first time in my life a guy get tossed out of the game for argueing balls and strikes and then throwing a bat. I had to fight laughing. I will admit the umpire was really slow playing his strike calls but man....it is rec softball....relax

cut and paste the address and it works but the link for some reason will not work.

The Scrubbing Bubbles is all directly on the shoes...leave it set for about 30 seconds (or usually enough time to put the spray on the other shoe or wipe down the first) then take a cloth and wipe off any extra. The Pledge I will apply directly to the shoes as well but wipe down right after the coat of Pledge. I then take the cloth and put a little Pledge on it to hit the tongue and smaller areas that may have been missed on the overall shine. It takes me about 10 min. from the time I get the shoes out and start to wipe off the extra dust to then I am finished and putting them back in my shoe box.

Ok...this was a baseball game

I was watching a game the other day and this situation came up. Runner on 1st no outs...batter puts down a good bunt and the 1st baseman fields it. the batter/runner is coming up the 1stbase line and the 1st baseman starts to try to tag him. The batter/runner stops then starts back peddling in a straight line. The plate umpire calls and out but NO TAG took place and when the fielder turned to try to throw out the runner going to second the batter/runner took off and reached first without being tagged. The umpires held up the out call and I was told later that the explanation was that once the batter/runner starts to back pedal that he is giving himself up and is to be called out. I just could not see anything in the rules or casebook to support this and wanted to see what others thought.

@gnhbua93 I use the same process all season so the picture of the before want after a game.

My laces came like that...they are not twisted. I think it is suppose to help the knot hold better. Not sure.

I was doing my shoes today and thought I would take some picks to show how amazing the Scrubbing Bubbles and Pledge can do. Picture 2 is the before. before the Scrubbing Bubbles I wiped off the excess dust and dirt with a dry wash cloth then the Scrubbing Bubbles. Picture 1 is after just the Scrubbing Bubbles Picture 3 is after the Scrubbing Bubbles and Pledge. I think they look pretty good for a 5-10 minute job. Sorry the photos are not great but you can see the progress and that the photos got mixed up.

But on a force play is it really that simple? If the runner does not touch the base on a force play how can that force no longer be in effect? I just do not see the logic in the interpretation that is all. I am obviously wrong in my thinking but just think that if you don't touch the base you really have not eliminated the fact that you are force to that base.
-
I would have never guessed in a million years that if a runner did not touch 1st base that he/she had acquired the base...and would never have guessed that an appeal would be needed in order for the defensive player to get an out of a player that has not touched the base. Guess I am wrong...lol
-
Thank you for explaining that for me.

I am not sure i understand this ruling? If a runner misses the base on a force play and the defensive team tags the base before the runner touches the base how can we call them safe? I would like to know the rule that is being applied to make this ruling so that I can have this for future reference. Thanks and have a blessed day.
-
Thank you...I will do that from now on.
-
Thank you both...I will probably do both of these in the future....I just thought the batter would know that if I said he swung it was strike three and that the catcher should know to throw down or tag for the out.

I had a situation the other night at a JV game that had never happen to me before and I had not clue how to handle it. I would love to hear how others would have. There was 1 outs and a 1-2 count on the batter with no one on base...a curve ball in the dirt that the batter check swings and it gets away from the catcher. I gave the strike signal and announced "He Went" then showed a safe signal to indicate no catch on the strike. The catcher goes and gets the ball and throws it back to the pitcher and the batter steps back in the box. My partner and I just stood in our positions and after about 10 seconds (and the pitcher getting back on the rubber to take a sign) I re-stated "He Went". At this point the catcher yells to the pitcher to throw to first and my partner called him out. I asked the catcher if he heard me and he said he didn't but my partner told me he heard me from the "A" position. Any suggestions how to avoid this in the future?

I have both Wilson and TW pads and love the TW pads...nothing against the Wilson...they just don't fit my face the same as the TW. I have taken 3 straight on shots to the mask this season already.(doing alot of JV plates this season since it is my first in HS ball). I have not even felt any of the hits. On a side note: I took one on the forearm last night that i was ready to kick the catcher in the butt for dodging....this kid was diving out the way of the ball and trying to scoop them out the dirt like a first baseman.

Very good idea...thanks.

i am using a Line Up Holder from Ray...the cards i get are bigger than the holder so i have to fold the cards and my pen goes through.
-
yes...I got it and i think the big thing is that the coaches around here use the cheap "Dick's Sporting Goods" lineup cards and they don't fit the wallet without folding them up and then trying to write on the folded cheap paper.
