  1. There's a link on here somewhere brother, but a YouTube search does not reveal it.
  2. I think I like it!
  3. Can't access the video? But I feel stupid. I spent all last year working under the impression that any foul that did not go directly into the catcher's glove and stay they're was a dead foul ball. I'm pretty sure I didn't have any of these, but I'm prepared now I guess.
  4. So if the ball comes off the bat, hits the glove but doesn't go in, then hits the mask, and then goes back into the glove, it's a foul tip or a caught foul ball, or neither?
  5. 2.16.2 SITUATION A: B2 swings and tips the ball and a) the ball goes directly to the catcher’s glove and then rebounds to the catcher’s chest protector, then the ball is caught by the catcher; or b) the ball goes directly to the catcher’s chest protector and then is caught by the catcher. RULING: In a), the pitch is a strike and remains live. In b), this is a foul ball. I'm not understanding A so well. It sounds as if the ball didn't go directly into the catcher's glove and STAY there, yet they're calling it a foul tip. Major divergence from OBR?
  6. Ok fellas, what shirts ARE you wearing? Where do you get them, how much?
  7. I checked for previous posts about this but couldn't find any, let me know if I missed them. I was blessed with a shin guard upgrade for Christmas - WV Pro Black - they come with a 'foot plate' permanently attached. Hideous, and not very functional with my 3N2 plate shoes. I'm sure guys cut them off, but before I start cutting, I thought I should seek some wisdom on this. Any help is appreciated, with this, or tips about the guards in general. Thanks.
  8. I'm taking the NFHS in February in PA. Any 'intel' would be appreciated. Thanks.
  9. I gotta find some training, clinics, or something!!! Baseball fever already, going nuts, and there's at least 3 months to call a game!!!
  10. Ball bag, and West Vest Pro shin guards!!!! Jackpot!!!
  11. May the Lord bless you Matt, as you chase the dream! No fear!
  12. You're right @catsbackr! But the Gold was advertised! I'll take some responsibility, but not all! Stay tuned. What am I missing out on by keeping this 3209 over the Gold?
  13. It's here! Need some experiential wisdom on this thing. Tip?. Who uses the bicep guard?
  14. Is there any way to watch the entire documentary without seeing it on the MLB network? Is there a DVD or download? I can't find anything?
  15. Great help. Thanks all!
  16. I guess I was just wondering how picky guys are about this stuff. If I'm the PU (2nd year, greenhorn), and on this play to RF, I communicate to my veteran partner "I've got the ball", is he gonna think I'm an idiot and give 5 demerits or something because I didn't say "I'm on the line"?
  17. The PBUC Manual for the 2 Umpire System has me curious. With R1, and a fly ball to left or right moving the fielder toward the line, the PU has the ball and communicates to his partner: For a ball to Right he says "I'm on the line", but for a ball to left, it's "I've got the ball" or "It's my ball". Why the difference? How do YOU communicate this? Does it matter?
  18. Fed (NFHS) doe have their own umpire manual which discusses mechanics. http://www.nfhs.com/p-758-2013-2014-baseball-umpires-manual.aspx Note that many here do NOT hold this publication in high regard. Stick withthe PBUC and if possible the Jim Evans Maximizing Manual. And while this may be the prevailing approach to many who frequent this site, many of those are also experienced officials who work multiple levels of baseball with varying skill levels. I might suggest that you also find out what the prevailing mechanics are in your local association so that you can successfully assimilate. It is probably not in your best interest to be the new guy, the inexperienced guy, and the guy who insists on doing things differently. While I do not necessarily agree with all the mechanics in the NFHS manual, I know that if I choose to be the maverick (not @Maverick) while working high school ball in New Jersey, I will likely receive negative marks from state observers. The NJSIAA sends the observers throughout the state to "check" on the mechanics, uniforms, and performances of umpires throughout the season. The last several years they have specifically reinforced the necessity of using federation mechanics rather than any other mechanics and I know three umpires who have received messages from their assigners about not using approved mechanics in high school ball. Want to guess which umpires also did not receive any post season assignments, despite their considerable experience and talents? Couldn't agree with you more! I'm the last guy to play the maverick. As soon as I get some direction from the local chapter, I'm all in, their way. Thanks for the tip.
  19. Does your association use arbiter? Try this link: http://nfhs.arbitersports.com/front/105401/Rules/Book?rulebookid=6f14f670-8e92-4020-97e2-bf55c77b06f7 Thanks Jax. The link identifies me by my name through my arbiter account, but it still says content only NFHS members? I left a voicemail at NFHS for help.
  20. How do I do that?
  21. Rule book only. I called, they said I could buy one, but they don't have any! Haaa! I'll buy the kindle version. I'm also studying the PBUC Manual for the 2 umpire system, red book, but they didn't provide that either! It's no wonder there's trouble finding quality officials...the people hiring them don't train them! It seems the standard of training is determined by the trainee?
  22. I'm studying for the FED test, which is February. Our state association didn't issue me a case book, only a rule book. Should I be studying the case book for the test?
  23. I'd love to know what all that means. Is TW Team Wendy? What do they do to the WVG? How much?
  24. Love eBay!
  25. Just upgraded to a West Vest Gold! Can't wait til it gets here!
