Does ALBWS = American Legion Baseball World Series? If so, I believe that counts for Military Appreciation!

Noumpere, I'm guessing you are just having a little fun. Yes, hurdling is going over. I have learned a lesson to read every post about 5 times before I send it, cause I thought it made sense. The proper words should have been, players trying to hurdle each other seems to be happening a lot, all over the country, hence "Hurdling is going around" Have a great day!

It's a bad throw by the catcher. Safe and play continues. If you are in the backyard playing like we used to "back in the day", it is an out! NCB

Spikes to the shoulder.

Hurdling must be going around. I had one on Tuesday, 5' nothing R3, 6' F2 (wide-body). F2 standing, bent knees, so he has come down to R3 height after great throw fm F6, (who just made an incredible play at 2B, laying on the ground, tagged base with foot and fired a laser to HP). R3 is dead to rights by 15', decides he's going to try to go over F2. He was able to get his front leg high enough to get F2 in the shoulder. I got the out and immediately ejected R3. It was crazy. VT coaches wanted blood, but my partner and I got them settled down, went to the top of 7, got 6 outs and got out of there. No postgame handshakes after this one. STRIKES AND OUTS!!! NCB

Had this very similar situation last night. Top 1, bases loaded, 1 out. Base hit to CF, R3 scores, R2 comes around 3rd too far, R1 is 3/4 of the way to 3rd, BR is between 1st & 2nd, Throw is cut from the OF, and thrown to 3rd to get R2, R2 avoids tag and gets back to the bag, F5 throws to F4 and rundown ensues. After one throw and R1 is tagged out (out 2), but R2 decides to head home. F4, delayed throwing the ball to F2, then throws up the line 20-25' up the line, as R2 is coming in, catcher moves into his path and hits him pretty good, throw is high. I immediately called obstruction and awarded R2 home. He ended up in the LH batters box. DHC hears OBS and thinks he has the 3rd out. 3rd BC (Asst coach) (OHC is 1st BC) hears OBS and knows his runner scores. I explain to DHC what OBS is and he tried to say that he was fielding the ball. He then starts to argue what about the interference at the plate, with 2 players at the plate. (The only players there prior to the play were ODB and R3). He tried to tell me they interfered with the play. I explained the play was 20' up the line. Then, (looking back on it) I made a mistake. I kinda shrugged my shoulders and smirked, thinking to myself, "what the hell do you want from me" (I didn't say that out loud). He takes it as I am laughing at him. He then calls time (time is already out), and says he is going to talk to my partner. I let him go, he gets to my partner and is there about 2 seconds and turns around and heads back to the dugout. Fast forward to Top of 2. Pitcher throws one in the dirt, hits F2, then me and gets away enough for R2 to head to 3rd. Batter backs out of box to avoid the play, F2 picks up the ball and fires to 3rd, a little late for the out. DHC calls time and comes out again. Says the batter has to stay in the box. I tell DHC that "in my judgement, there was no interference" He said, but he has to stay in the box, I said, "no, he has to avoid the play" Of course he wasn't happy. He walks away. As I'm getting behind the dish the OHC is heading my way. I meet him about the 45' line and he asks me quietly, "Is he always like this?" I said "Coach to be honest, I haven't worked here in 4 years, so I'm not sure." He understood and went back to the box and I headed for the plate. The VT scored 7 runs in the 2nd to go up 10-2, game ended up 14-2. But it's all on me. I should have restricted the HTHC after the first for his comments to his team, but he saw my glare and quickly shut his trap. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to share and to let you know that you need to keep a straight face when dealing with coaches. At the time I didn't think I did anything wrong, but the HTHC was more pissed that he thought I laughed at him rather than getting the call right. I'm pretty sure I'll be scratched from working games at that school. Oh well, there is plenty more and better baseball to work around the city. NCB

Had this situation in a HS Varsity game last season. Top 6, bases loaded, 2 outs, very close game. Lined shot off the pitchers head, ball goes into short right field. Runners from 2nd & 3rd scored, runner from first stopped at 3rd, and BR stopped at 1st. As soon as runners stopped I called time. Trainer and coach were there within 15 seconds of ball hitting the pitcher. The pitcher's parents took him to the hospital and he was diagnosed with a slight concussion and a broken nose. He was back at practice the next morning, although he didn't participate. It was a scary situation, and one I never hoped to see or have to officiate, but I think in the end we got it right and let the play continue.

Upon returning to 3B, didn't the runner correct the initial mistake (leaving early), therefore invoking the last time by rule?

Is the pitch supposed to be in the batter's box? Unless a batter CLEARLY leans into the pitch, put him on base. Not sure what age group you are doing, but if you are worried about pitch counts, I'm guessing its 12U and below. Sorry, I don't do a lot of small ball, but I would tell the coach he froze. I think your guess is accurate, 3 pitches could be another batter. STRIKES & OUTS!!!

Scott, Is your pitcher in the windup or the set position?

Just curious, how many of your associations let you know when you will be evaluated? I worked a JV/V DH last night and didn't realize the evaluator was in the stands until the 2nd inning of the V game. Funny part was, I knew I was due for an eval, but since I was working rodeo circuit ball last night and I didn't expect to have it last night. On a good note, my partner and I both had very good games. Even got to show him my game management skills, when the AC tried to argue a call at the plate, I sent him back and turned around and discussed with the HC. Bottom line, always work like you are being evaluated, it becomes 2nd nature and your games are much smoother and quicker. Last night 1:40 5-4 ballgame.

For FED rules, where INT is immediate DB, what if the scenario changes, say R1 interferes with F3 making the play on an uncaught fair IF, (nullifying the IF). Do you leave the BR at first (and other runners at 2nd & 3rd), or bring him back to the batter's box?
