I have a Zero Gravity that I purchased the end of last season that just doesn't fit me well. $119.95 new at Honig's. I am asking $95. I will add a pic or 2 shortly.

Head height is another key factor on the low outside pitch. I was having some consistency issues at a clinic and was told by our D1 guru to raise up a little to make sure I could track that pitch all the way to the glove. It has helped tremendously. Our area is trying to go one ball on either side of the plate,(the outside ball on the previous diagram) which almost makes it batter's box to batter's box. I can't make myself do it!

I had a kid on Saturday that stood solidly in the box and let a very slow curve ball hit him in the front leg. When I say let, it was obvious the he just kept his foot planted and made no attempt whatsoever to get out of the way. Right handed batter and pitcher. Ball hits him, he takes off for first and I bring him back. I let my Area Rep know of this after he emailed asking what we had all seen so far this season. He says I should have awarded first base... Rule 8.1.1.d.1 states the HBP is disregarded if the batter permits the ball to hit him. Am I missing something?

By staying consistent you pulled it off. We are all our own worst critic...or should be...that is what we do to ourselves to continually improve. The ones that aren't are the ones none of us want to work with. It could have just as easily gone the other way though. We have all had games where we thought we were right on and you get comments that you were all over the place. Always consider the source. First games of the year tomorrow! One dish, one base! Rain and snow is in the forecast...

Don't you mean ball or balk them. No, you balk them. The penalty for a balk with no runners on base is a ball on the batter. It is still a balk.

Buying or selling the fishing boat?

Interesting to say the least...

Scott Ehret disagrees. http://web.archive.o...mech/mech08.htm I have copied the text from the discussion and and sent it up the chain. Thanks for the tip!

And I'll bet your association still uses the FED Umpires Manual also. No, we use the CCA, thank you. We do however get some redasses that think they are it. I didn't say I agreed with them...I took the information from here and tried to impart some knowledge on others, but this time it didn't work.

The Gerry Davis Stance - Observations and Questions

I use the KF version of the GD. I can still lock in but this is a little more forgiving. -
Looks like 12"

I have problems with the shoulder caps...they extend down my arms so far that I get bound up trying to put my mask on. It is great protection, but it doesn't fit me correctly.

We were told tonight in our Association meeting that if the pitcher is taking signs from the catcher while off of the rubber we are to balk it per 6.1, which I think is worded pretty clearly. The pitcher shall take his sign from the catcher with his pivot foot in contact with the pitcher's plate. As I always like a lively discussion, I tried to argue the picking boogers theory and was soundly rebuffed.

I have a platinum that I just bought at the end of last summer. It has been used in 6 games and I hate it. $100 plus shipping and it is yours. Will consider partial or full trades from here in the Empire. PM me...

My plate game went very well. I started out a little fast, but got settled in and slowed things down. Got all my rotations and the Area Rep for our Association was there and video taped a couple of innings so I will get to review that to see if I did as well as I thought... Second game was just awful baseball. I was U1 with very little happening in the field. I just concentrated on being where I needed to be. Luckily it got dark after 3 1/2 and we were done. More games next week and then the floodgates will open.

F1 Throws Cap on 3rd to 1st Move

I would personally have a problem letting the out call stand if you eject for unsportsmanlike. If what the defense did was egregious enough to warrant an ejection then I am not rewarding them with the out...it was obviously beyond legal deception, balk. Why would it be deemed bad enough to eject only if it worked? This act is either unsportmanlike or not...the result of the play shouldn't matter. -
The league is providing for them through Ump-Attire. I will hold out $10 from each game and before the end of the season they will own all of it.

My first one is tomorrow...2-man. Just hustle. That's all you can do in 1 man. Don't suck!!!

Tomorrow is my first HS games since getting back into umpiring last year after a length hiatus. JV twin bill and I have the dish for the opener. Tomorrow is also meeting night for our association in the same town as the games...guess where the meeting will probably be...
-
That's where I was headed, but I thought I would try the Empire as someone has surely been down this road before. Ump-Attire had nothing below a 30" waist and no suggestions...same with Honig's. Thanks for the quick replies.
-
For those of you that have junior umpires, what do you do for pants? I can't find anything smaller than 28" waste and some of my younger guys could fit in those twice! Any suggestions???

I bought a Platinum last year and experienced the same thing. I also have a hard time reaching up to put my mask on as my arms are all bound up. I have decided to keep it until I can get somewhere to try others on, but the Platinum is not my long term solution.

This is how I have always done it. Our advanced clinic however teaches middle, ring, pinky. No fist for 3-2 and definitely no "hook 'em horns" for any reason - ever!
