Wanted to share an interesting story. The club my youngest plays for here in the DFW area just completed their 3 winter camps. We just moved to this club so this was his first time to attend. I was shocked at the number of college and professional scouts that attended and worked the camp. Each putting in as much effort with kids my son's age, 11 as they did with the high school kids they were seriously looking at.
The really cool thing happened today and we didn't realize this would be the case when we picked the dates we did. Scott Coolbaugh, the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers spent the day at camp with the kids today. He gave a little 30 minute lecture on his approach to hitting before the kids spent the remainder of the morning hitting. He answered every question asked of him by kids from 8 to 18, was very approachable and personable and truly loving his opportunity. I saw him on more than one occasion take a kid and give him some 1:1 instruction, and it didn't matter the age of the kid, he was just as involved with every single kid.
Just really neat to meet people like this who are in responsible for one of the most potent lineups in MLB be himself and give something back to all of these kids.
