Hi there.....It me again from malaysia..:wave::).

I just want to know is it foul ball or ball in play when....

1) The batted ball first bounce infield between home and 1st or between home and 3rd, then hit the base 1st or 3rd and go into foul territory.

2) The batted ball first bounce infield between home and 1st or between home and 3rd, then fly over base 1st or 3rd and go into foul territory.

Please help me to understand more clearly.

both times it is a fair ball, assuming i have understood you correectly :-)

whenever a batted ball hits the actual base, it is a fair ball, regardless of where the ball bounces to afterwards

whenever the ball bounces in fair territory OVER the base, it is a fair ball as well

so:

1)Fair

2)Fair

Believe it or not, this was brought up in an earlier thread by me in terms of discussing the foul line. A good way to think of a baseball that hits a base and goes foul is that the base is ALWAYS in fair territory.

so what would your call be for the following:

sit 1: batted ball hits pitcher's rubber....bounces off rubber and ball rolls into foul territory before passing 1st base

sit 2: batted ball hits pitcher's rubber....bounces off rubber and balls rolls into foul territory after passing 1st base :-)

ummm guys a ball hitting a base is a fair ball regardless of where it bounces next. Both situations sound like fair balls to me.

In these sits the ball is hitting the rubber not a base. And is rolling past not hitting 1B.

Ah, I was responding to the OP.

Believe it or not, I had a batted ball hitting the pitching rubber and bouncing into foul territory before 1st/3rd base three times in a season... two of them in the same week.

And for that matter, nailed them all.
