I had a sitch the other night R1 on 2nd no outs, R1 goes on the pitch F2 comes up to throw to 3rd. Batter steps out of bax with on foot to see what is happening at 3rd, F2 on the throw hits batter in back of the helmet. I call BI R1 out continue play. They are playing under OBR, any help on BI situations would be appreciated.

Did I get this right?

Well, you had the BI right: he stepped out of the box and interfered with the catcher's play at third. Coaches are telling batters to get out of the box if there's a play: we're trying our best to tell them to stay in there.

What you had wrong is the penalty. The batter is out, the runner returns to 2nd. UNLESS the catcher makes the throw, and it results in a putout. Then, you ignore the BI. 6.06©.

With the ambiguity of this particular infraction, is there a video out there somewhere that demonstrates BI and non BI cases. I have seen this called when clearly there was not, and not called when clearly it should have been.
