Situation: Bottom 5, 0 outs. Runner on first. Batter hits a long fly ball to left that lands in deep left field. Ball and Runner get to third base at the just about the same time. I see the tag on the helmet before the runner's foot touches the base. I wait a second to make sure the F5 has possession of the baseball and call my out. Meanwhile the HC who is in 3rd base coaches box is calling him safe. After my out call, he starts yelling at me from the 3rd base box. At one point he yells "Had you been in better position you would have seen he was safe." I dumped him as I felt this was a personal attack as well as showing me up. Was I too quick on the toss?

PS: Was a great game, Home team with two strikes and two outs on a 2 run double in the bottom of the 7th with their coach watching from the parking lot.

Seems a little quick...he was probably heading there anyway, but you gotta let him get there.

I'm going against the current responses, and say, I don't think it was too quick. If he's yelling away from the box, he's already looking for the hook. And once he starts giving you advice on positioning, he's just gotten his engraved invitation in the mail to leave the game.

I mean, from your post, it sounds like the positioning comments was one of several things he'd already had to say.

And I know a warning is supposed to be in order, but if he's just running his mouth at 100mph, he's already driven the car off the cliff.

It depends how the game has been going with him. If this is his first offense, give a warning. If he has been going on and on about other things during the game, send him. More than likely, I would have a warning unless he has gotten one already.

Maybe too quick but a HTBT.

Coach is in the box, and you make the call from, what, 20 ft from him? I would toss depending on his length of rope at that point, and how he yelled (decible level? lol). I think we've all been there, and wonder afterwards, but mainly the only ejections I worry about are the ones I didnt, but should have.....

One thing to always remember as we are told in our Association.

Make sure you are in a defense-able position when you eject.

When ever possible warn and then EJ or restrict.

I think yu may have been a little quick.
