Two questions for illegal bats, High school federation.

I've noticed that some teams like to put a strip of white or black tape on the bat right where it starts increasing in width from the neck to the barrel. I guess it's to stop it from hurting a players hands if they hit the ball with the neck of the bat. Is this tape legal?

#2 Bats that have lost (chipped) some of the paint on the barrel from players hitting thier cleats when at bat. I've seen bats that have lost almost half the paint, the certification is still visible just the paint is chipped. Legal or Illegal????

If it is past the leather wrap of the bat, I would be careful> Meaning a lot of tape, I would have them remove it, if for purposes of reducing stings. A stray piece, likely let is go, but you can ask. If they say to reduce stings, tell them next time remove it please.

In the 2nd situation, chips you have to live with, as long as there are not cracks or dents in it, that is fine. If dented or cracked, have it removed.

I had a bat removed once, when it looked like a flat cricket bat in a tournament. Since we didnt do a formal pregame like in FED, I said remove this and get a new bat, and not call an out.

Coach went crazy; dad said it was a new bat....and I went there are options of calling batter out and tossing you coach. Player got a new bat and said thanks blue..

Yes, it's legal.

In fact, in NCAA games, the spot 18" from the handle must be marked -- and tape is one way to do it.

The strip of tape is legal, and if I'm not mistaken is used to show where the pine tar must stop.
