Maybe warn is the wrong word. He ensured that the catcher would no longer us the improper equipment by bringing the coach into the conversation.

Most "grown up" catchers these days leave their mask on no matter the type.  Youth coaches need to catch up.

As long as HS kids and below turn their head rather than keeping their head forward, the HSM is needed.  I see it all of the time.
