Greetings all. I'm a first-year umpire working in Kentucky. I'm affiliated with the KHSAA's 14th Region Umpires Association. I have previously done some rec league games but nothing of this level. In high school, I was involved with my school's team but didn't do baseball in college.

By trade, I'm a United Methodist pastor and a seminary student. I'm broke so I'm doing this for some fun but also to make a little extra cash.

I look forward to learning a lot and having some great discussions.

Welcome Jonathan! Remember the words of James as you interact on this site, 'quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger...' (James 1:19 ESV), and you'll learn a ton. I'm an evangelical pastor and I'm occasionally convicted by those words, admittedly, a bit too late sometimes, but it helps me.

Beyond that, the best advice that's been given to me regarding umpiring is 'learn proper timing through proper use of your eyes'. This is the foundation of every call you'll make.

Pray alot, keep your chest to the ball, and have fun!!!

Welcome! You've found a great place to learn lots - I certainly have.

My son is still working on his undergraduate degree, but plans to go to United Methodist seminary immediately afterwards.
