Runner on 1st breaks early for 2nd Pitcher steps off rubber, turns toward 2nd, and throws to ss, who easily tags runner. BUT as pitcher turned, he accidentally stepped back onto the rubber.

new question:

batted ball hits in fair territory (a few feet in front of plate), then bounces above the foul line. 

The third baseman charges in, jumps over the foul line, catches the ball, then lands in foul territory. 

Fair or foul ball?

based on my understanding - still learning.

 

no balk, if  he disengages by stepping being the rubber,he is no longer a pitcher and the step on the rubber is coincidental.  Out

 

Q2 - if the F5 touched the ball while it was over foul territory, then it's foul, not sure what you mean by "above".  the umpire would have to judge where the ball was when touched.

Accidentally stepping on the rubber means nothing. You have to engage the rubber intentionally.

 

Where was the ball when fielder touched it? That's the only thing that matters - was it over fair (including the line) or foul territory?
