The replay review seems odd to me, anyone else, since the fielder made no effort to indicate the ball was lodged, he went to play it.  Seems the opposite call of where Cespedes threw his hands up and then U2 runs out and says "nope live ball".  Inconsistent to me.  In this case, BR gave up on it hi,self and was bailed out for his misplay.

Why on earth was that ruled a lodged ball??? It's just sitting there on the track, the outfielder has no problem just grabbing it.

I guess they used this stadium ground rule:

Here's an explanation from Mike DiMuro about the general principle behind ball-in-wall:

Quote

Ultimately, the proper ruling must be made by the base umpire who is responsible for the flight of the ball – and it is only possible to do so by running out to the fence to visually discern and confirm that the ball is indeed lodged or stuck. If the fielder dislodges the ball by grabbing it and removing it, then it can no longer be considered lodged or stuck.

Thus, replay allows for NY to 'instantly' decide whether or not a ball is lodged, even if the fielder plays it that we, in our non-replay games, would have no recourse but to no-call unless there was overwhelming evidence to see that it was lodged from 100+ feet away from the wall. Replay allows that call to be made without the umpire having to run out to the wall.

The TEX ruling was the ball was stuck between the ground and the bottom of the wall's padding (via replay).

The Cespedes play had CB Bucknor run out, see that the ball was loose, and keep it live. The reason he had no lodge on that play was that the ball was sitting on the dirt, then there was about three or four inches of overhead clearance above the ball to the bottom of the padding. Thus, no stuck ball.

would have been interesting to see if the BR had made thrid and the defense challenged the call and it was reviewed to send him back to 2nd
