DANDRIDGE, Tenn — The parent of a middle school wrestler won't go to jail for head-butting a referee, but he's been sentenced to umpiring the upcoming Little League baseball season.

I disagree with this. If I were an umpire assignor I wouldn't want this guy in my organization. He's proven he has a temper, can't handle pressure and has a propensity towards violence. Not only that, but who wants an umpire on the field that doesn’t want to be there? The players don’t; the coaches don’t; the assignor doesn’t; and I sure as hell don’t want him as my partner. We’ve all had that partner who doesn’t want to be on the field, so why create that situation?

Could this guy even pass the LL background investigation to be eligible to umpire?

Great ...just what every assignor needs.........a person known to not be able to control himself.........

1. He would never pass out background check. We exclude anyone convicted of a crime which involves violence. I'd never let him within 500 yards of my kids.

2. It's not going to help him. If he's that arrogant as a spectator, how's he going to handle being an official? He's doing this just to stay out of jail.

3. I'd really hate to have to work with him, or to have my teams play at his game. he's unqualified, uncommitted (but maybe he should be), and a distraction to the game.

4. I'd tell the Judge to go pound sand, he's not working here.
