Force

With runners on 1st and 2nd w/ less than two outs. Ground ball is hit to the SS who throws to 2B for a force out. 2B then throws to 3B prior to runner occupying 3rd base. Is this a force play or a tag play?

Tag play. Force was removed by the out at second.

The force of R2 was removed with the out at 2B.  F5 would have to tag R2 at 3B.

Same scenario in most infield practices when teams turn double plays: F3 gets grounder, touches 1B, throws to F6 covering 2B and everyone yells 'Tag!'

If a trailing runner or batter runner is the first person put out on the play... there are no longer any force outs available.
