I am curious...does anyone use grey ball bags and if so what uniform combo or situation?

I don't now, but I did my first year. I used them when I wore grey pants and the situation was when I was working a baseball game. But only as plate umpire, never base umpire - I was quite strict about that!

Sorry to be a smartass :)....but I'm not really sure what's the issue?

I think grey ball bags are sold at sporting goods stores where you can buy a blue shirt. Having purchased both and maybe some grey pants you can call balls and strikes at whatever ball game that will employ you. That being said, one of our best new guys had grey ball bags and we did not ask him to change them.

I use Grey a lot. By the fifth kiddie ball game of the day, they still look reasonably clean. I grabbed a bunch of them last year on sale at officials choice for $2.50. The black and the navy just look like road kill by the third game so I try to keep them for regular season games.

I am sorry if this was a crazy question...I am starting with a new association and we do the light blue shirts and charcoal pants.  I have always either used navy or black bags but when I orders some new bags a couple weeks ago I got grey instead of black.  Just trying to decide if I will use them or try to send them back.  Thanks

It's cool, I was just being a jerk :)

I used them my first year. I was unemployed at the time so I had to skimp where I could. I had one pair of pants, one pair of ball bags, etc. I got a package deal from ump-attire that included a Smitty charcoal combo pant with the matching Smitty grey cloth ball bags. Since they perfectly matched in color, texture, etc., I thought they looked pretty good. But if they were mismatched it might look odd.

Let's face it - it's just a ball bag. No one but fellow umpires would ever notice...and those that do, unless they're just joking around, should really find something more substantive to worry about. Like....anything.

I've seen a few guys wear them in some of our weekend tourneys, but we're not allowed to wear them for our HS games (GA).

i was kind of thinking about doing the same thing...they are nice bags but just can't use them for the HS games and already have bags for other games.
