Rotation Situations

I am going back over stuff for this season and want to make sure I am not missing anything.  I can only think of 3 rotation situations...

1) Runner on first only

2) Runners on first and third

3) Runners on first and second (less than 2 outs)

Am I missing any?  also am I right in saying this only comes in to effect with a ball that is hit into the outfield?  

This is one of the areas I need to get better at is the rotations.

I'm pretty sure that's the question, yes.

Applying the term 'rotation' when we have just 2 umpires is already a bit of a stretch, especially if we're only thinking in terms of PU covering plays at 3B. The terms "Plate umpire" and "Base umpire" begin to express which bases we ordinarily cover. So I guess if PU is covering a play at any base other than HP, that could count as a rotation.

Here are some other plays PU will cover at other bases:

• With no runners (BU in A), and BU goes out on a batted ball, PU has the BR all the way around (or just on the bases, if you work with BU's fleeter of foot than most in my association).
• On a rundown between 1B and 2B, PU will rotate up to 1B to take that end; same at 3B for rundowns between 2B and 3B.
• With no runners, PU will rotate halfway to 1B to help with swipe tags and overthrows, and has primary for RLI.

That's not exhaustive.....

CCA also has PU, who is already in the area, cover 3B with a DP ground ball with R1 only if R1 is safe and ball and runner come together at 3B.  

PBUC and I think Jim Evans has PU cover 3B with R1 and a ground ball to the infield.

Both have PU get pulled foot/swipe tag if no play develops. Both keep PU on 1B line if fair/foul needs to be determined.

yes...2 man mechanics and PU rotating to 3rd base

If you want to get technical, rotations are clockwise, reverse rotations (In 3/4-man crews) are counter-clockwise. 

I wouldn't count helping with rundowns and getting to the 45-foot line as rotations, but that's just me.

For our original poster - the Manual for the 2 Umpire System from PBUC is excellent! It's a little red book that is incredibly understandable. Also, the Jim Evans Manual is very good. Regular use of these will help you remember much of this. At least it's working for me!
