I was asked this the other day and wanted to get the answer.  A player hits a homerun and as he rounds second misses the base...he comes around and touches third and the coach tells him to go back and touch second that he missed the base.  The player retouches third and returns to second then continues from there to round the bases.  Any violation?

Because he touched the next base (3rd) from the one he missed (2nd) AFTER the ball became dead (on the home run), he would still be out if the defense properly appeals the miss.  The umpire should do nothing unless the defense appeals.

And here's the rule support for Mr. Grayhawk's fine answer:

OBR 5.09c Any runner shall be called out, on appeal, when-

APPROVED RULING:

(B) When the ball is dead, no runner may return to touch a missed base or one he has left after he has advanced to and touched a base beyond the missed base.

PLAY--(A) Batter hits ball out of park or ground rule double and misses first base (ball is dead)--he may return to first base to correct his mistake before he touches second but if he touches second he may not return to first and if defensive team appeals he is declared out at first.

Ok...Thank you for the answer...this is what I thought.  Now a twist.  Bases are loaded 2 outs and the same thing happens.  How many (if any) runs score?

It wasn't a force out, and the appeal can't happen until all the baserunning is complete, so three runs score.
