Starting the game

In our pool game (tournament ball) we flip a coin for home team.

Anybody have a problem flipping a coin ?
What is the proper coin flip mechanic ?

I have seen visitors call the flip and other team chooses dugout. Happens at LL tournaments before every game.

It is generally done when both teams are present and (sometimes) umpire(s) are there. Tournament host/director flips before teams take field to warm up.

Once had an unusual thing happen at a pre tournament meeting where I as acting UIC did the flipping for each game. For one game the coin (a Canadian dollar) ended up standing on edge on the table where we were all sitting. Could never do that again. Needless to say a re flip was necessary.
