I had a strange question asked to me this past weekend by a team manager during Fall Ball Games. It seems that a well respected Ump no longer will do any games, in LL, HS, NCAA etc.

The question was:

"Why would an experienced, knowledgeable, "veteran umpire" all of a sudden be "afraid"??? to umpire?"

I gave my opinions but would like to hear some of yours. Apparently there were no threats, attacks, or injuries to this ump.

Not too many umpires do LL, HS and NCAA division? What happened in you neck of the woods.

He should have know that not publicizing his reasons for leaving umpiring would lead to baseless speculation. How could he do that to folks ?

If he stopped umpiring without telling people why, maybe (now I'm speculating) the reason is none of their business.
