Just curious what the appropriate mechanic is for calling a ball when a pitcher goes to his mouth on the rubber (OBR).  I've only called it a couple times and have just pointed and said "that's a ball for going to the mouth" along with giving a motion to the confused coach but obviously just made that up on my own.  Should time be called as well?

When you see it call time immediately. Remember the rule changed a few years ago to it is a warning the first time then a ball after that. The mechanic is you pretend to lick your fingers and verbalize, "Ball. Going to the mouth." Do this to the press box too if there is one and give them the count. If not just to the coaches. Most times they'll ask you what happened still.

I've never had an issue just announcing it and then giving the count.  No need for another mechanic, unless someone (important) doesn't understand and you need to use it to help communicate.

Make a loose fist and move it laterally to and away from your open mouth.

LOL!
