I wanted to take a moment and publicly congratulate a fellow umpire that I've know for a few years.  I don't recall seeing anything previously on here, and he's not one to boast.   I met him in 2009 working the Little League East Regional in Bristol, CT.  He is home based out of Bangor, Maine, where they hold the Senior League world series.  He is part of the staff that ensure the umpires are well cared for during their visit at the Senior League World Series.  My visit was in 2013. 

However, @‌maineump had 1st base on Tuesday evening at the Big League World Series Championship game in Easley, SC.  For those of you who may have watched the game, his effortless execution of his duties (even though there WERE 5 other umpires on the field) made me want to improve my game that much more.

Congratulations! I watched that game on the big screen at the bar while hubs was holding arm wrestling practice, if it was the same game. Was that PU not getting into the slot? He seemed almost to be barely dropping down at all, although I didn't notice him missing any s/b.

Thanks - was an easy night, only a few close ones. Most of that game was game management, kids and coaches like to run their mouths at that level. I haven't seen the game (on TV), not sure if he was in the slot or not. He did seem a little high, but he stayed there all night and didn't get hit.

Had an ejection, should have been more - all of the kids and coaches were umpires friends, until they got behind.

During that week we also had 2 Anthem standoffs, one of the games resulted in ejections because of it.

Troy, congratulations on the work.  Your work at U1 in the final should be recorded and taught to umpires who oversell everything on TV.  You were great, seriously.

Any ejections in Bangor since mine in 2011?  I still remember the "we've only had 2 ejections in 11 years" speech....even the coach said it to me after I ejected his batter for drawing a line after strike 3.  All I could do to not say, "I guess they'll have to change that speech next year."

I believe that there were 6 ejections this year (it was before I returned from SC) because of a bench clearing brawl. One team was also sent home early, because of actions on and off the field. It is amazing to come into a tournament and hear of stuff that has happened. I love my job as Asst UIC, but being on the field is still the best job.

Sounds like that number has been updated quite a bit since 2011.

Truth is, I would be more ashamed of myself if I watched a kid draw a line with a bat and I *didn't* eject him.  And to the credit of maineump and the other umpire staff, they all said the same thing after the game.
