In Little League...

what constitutes a "visit" by the offensive coach to a batter ? would it be if the coach asks for "time" then talks to his batter ? or could it be if the third base coach speaks with the batter prior to him entering the batters box?

I had one of those nit picking coaches last night ... Personally if the coach speaks to the batter briefly prior to him entering the batters box then I don't consider it a visit...

I always teach (umpires and coaches) is that the point is not to limit in-game coaching (at this level, at least), but to limit in-game delays.

If the coach yells something the "whole class can hear" then I don't care.   If he comes down to to offer something he doesn't want the defense to hear, or calls runners over, then that's his timeout.  If he wanders down the baseline but speaks openly, it depends on how much and how ready the catcher, pitcher and I am.    Sounds like I would support your interp last night.

The rule reads:  "(NOTE: Only one offensive time-out, for the purpose of a visit or conference, will be permitted each inning.)"

Once he requested time and it was granted he has used up his conferences for that inning. Enforce it of the game will last forever.

I agree if he calls time however last night the coach didn't call time and it was a brief visit with the batter, the DHC made a point of telling me that the OHC had spoken with one batter already that inning and that was the second visit. Time was never called and the game was moving along rather quickly I didn't consider it a visit... I appreciate yall's input to the question. I was just wondering if a had my line of thinking pointed in the right direction...
