Seems like we've had 2...maybe 3 of these situations already this year where the umpires eject without warning (which I agree with).  Does anyone know of any MLB bosses laying down and edict to the MLB umpires about getting rid of pitchers to prevent later brawls?

I wouldn't be surprised to see 8.02(d) enforced differently, electing option 1 more than 2. They added 7.13 to protect million-dollar catchers, why not dump pitchers immediately to prevent stupid delays like the "bench-clearing brawl," where 50 guys walk around for 5 minutes shouting expletives at each other. Always great entertainment.

I couldn't agree more. The warnings don't mean anything if they're going to retaliate.

I like the new approach. It cleans it up. It think we're seeing very early this year that they're dumping w/o warning.

I never got the "players police themselves" concept. Tradition, meh. What would happen in football or basketball if players policed themselves?

 

At this point, I can't imagine any owner wants to risk the possible injuries of virtually any player. The minimum salary in MLB now is $.5 million, and the average is $4.3M. Even with insurance (which also costs $$), why risk it, when you have a rule in place to prevent it?
