My game last night was 2:40 with a final of 12-8.  Could have been a miserable night...but I was fortunate to have 2 great catchers that took good care of me, talked to me and allowed me to talk to them, caught a bunch of close pitches right and made them look like strikes, and were just fun to work with.

I have a mantra that sometimes umpiring is a fun hobby and sometimes it is a JOB.  Tonight was competitive and intense with two cross-town rival teams that left me feeling lucky to be a part of such a great game!

I might be in the minority, because some people are all about their hourly wage, but I don't mind going long on time (or even extra innings for that matter) if it's a high-quality, close, competitive game (and I'm not getting the crap beat out of me).   I think we'd all like to work these kinds of games, rather than blowouts.   Congrats.

I agree. If the game is close and well played without a bunch of whining, ejections and mid-inning pitching changes then I'm the last guy to worry how long the game is.

Had 2 games yesterday. I was on the dish for game 1.First one went 7 innings 1 hour 35 minutes. Home team hits a Grand Slam in bottom of the 6 and it holds up for a 4-2 win. Next game, I am on the bases and we go 7 innings in 1 hour 24 minutes. Home team wins 1-0. Games Worked Too Damn Many

The only thing better than a good catcher is TWO good catchers!!

Don't forget TWO good pitchers! I love a duel.

I had a 20 inning, 4-3 high school game last year that was outstanding.  Chest protector rubbed my neck, chesticles and stomach raw, taking all the hair with it.  That part sucked.  Last year it was only 18 innings, but the story will continue to get better with each year.  In a few years I will have had to have first aid administered to stop the bleeding.  It was actually a hell of a game.

Where were you bleeding from Stu?  Your rectum?  From all those ass chewings you had to take for your calls that caused it to go 18 or 20 or 30 innings?  Or from your partner shoving his foot in there for the same reason?

Rectum?  Damn near killed 'em?

Gotcha!
