CDP experience??

I'm not putting down anyone on here. Heck even I have done it. I can see how experience at CDP could help a team. But some of the other comments really don't mean much. Things like:

1. I've been to CDP 22 times.

2. I've been Umpiring 36 years

3. I be worked all levels at CDP (how many levels are there?!?)

4. I'm a Division 1 College Umpire

5. I am certified

6. I've been to Pro Umpire School

7. I've been UIC at CDP 12 times

8. I'm very mature Etc etc etc

 

Like I said I've put some of these down myself. It's about selling yourself. But really do these things matter? Other than experience at CDP?

If I was a coach, my priorities in choosing an umpire for CDP would be:

Least cost

Someone who is reliable (won't back out)

The rest is just fluff.

What would it take for an umpire to show up at CDP, and NOT be allowed to officiate? I guess that would be the only concern.

 

I mean it's not like you're representing the team that's giving you a check, in any respect, right?

 

Grayhawk nailed it. What's the big deal on how good you are, or how many times you've done it? As long as your team's umpire passes, you can save yourself writing another check.

 

This still has to be the oddest umpire gig out there. Everybody getting paid a different amount (some just show up for the free room, grub and communal showers), but nobody's allowed to talk $.
