I know lots of very, very good umpires here in SoCal that aspire to work LL games on ESPN. It's a tough road, as there are many qualified umpires, and so few spots.

The ones that decide are quite picky about who represents the West, as well they should be. And the easiest way to decide is to see them in person. The one week is a great way, and it's even better if you come back there as an instructor. It shows your dedication to your craft, and your volunteerism to LL. Wanna shot a WP? You're probably already a WR instructor.

As for getting a Regional at San Berdoo, you're going to need to be seen. A few years ago, I worked a bunch of post season games with a  guy who wanted a shot at Regional. He knew when evaluators were going to be there, and picked his crew based on that. We were all on our snappiest behavior, and worked to make him look good. It worked, and he earned a spot, and he did the dish on the final game.

Outside of NoCal/SoCal, it's different. They don't have a chance to see you a lot, and have to roll the dice sometimes.
