I'm pretty sure we handled this correctly as far as the lineup goes but I don't have a ton of experience dealing with the DH.  So the team today used a DH in the 6th slot to bat for the pitcher.  In the third inning they replaced the pitcher with another player that was listed as a sub. So this would not impact the DH in anyway I presume?  Then a few innings later they replaced the pitcher again, but this time they brought in their F8 to pitch, sent their pitcher back to to the bench and then brought in a sub (#63) to play CF.  So we ruled that F8 who was now pitching would of course retain his spot in the batting order and #63 would bat in the 6th slot previously occupied by the DH and then DH would no longer exist?

Correct.

Correct. Both the DH and previous pitcher are out of the game.

Correct. Thank of it like this. They brought 63 in to pitch and then did a position change. 63 went to Center and center went to pitch. That's the way I process it to keep my mind right. The DH rule can be confusing.

As you make the appropriate changes on your lineup, it should be obvious what the correct outcome should be. Donte let defensive changes enter into your mind. When HC gives you his lineup changes, he's giving you his amended batting order. Not his defensive changes.

I'm not sure I understand this. The purely defensive change of swapping a pitcher and a position player (while on defense) does affect the DH.

Hey Fish. I have #22 Johnson in for #4 Smith in the 6 hole. I have #11 Turner in for #31 Collins in the 7 hole. And #18 Burns on the bump.

Now, you REPEAT what he gave you BEFORE you write it down on the lineup card. Once you write it and walk away, done deal. Give him the chance to confirm his new lineup. As you make the changes in writing, you'll know if one of the subbed players is the DH. At this point, you again clarify what he wants.

Ok, Mark, so #22 was your DH and he's going in, correct? Yessir. Ok your DH is burned. Yessir.

Important note, when teams utilize a DH, make note on the card who he is DHing for. Make sure you verbal this during your plate meeting.

So, as I said before, anything screwy about his subs, you should readily see when you write em down. If the DH isn't involved, all good. Subs on defense mean nothing to us. All we care about is where they fit properly into the batting order. That's the nature of the sub.

The thread is about OBR.

In OBR the DH can only hit for the pitcher.

Once you bring F8 in to pitch the DH has to go because F8 is already in the lineup so the DH can't hit for him.

So when F1 or whoever replaces F8 in the defensive position he now has to bat somewhere - and the only now open slot is where the DH was.

That was my main question.  Whether the DH could bat for a replacement of the pitcher.  I was envisioning it this way:

1.  In the first sub situation the player came in off the bench and took the pitcher's spot.  So the DH stayed batting, but just for the new pitcher instead of the starting pitcher.

2.  The second sub situation could be looked at as a sub coming in for the pitcher so the the DH is batting for that sub.  Then a defensive move is made switching F1 and F8.  The DC wanted his DH to remain in the game and now be batting for the new F8 who actually replaced his F1 in his mind.

So how would this situation look like in a code that allows the DH to bat for any player?

It would be allowed in FED rules because the DH doesn't need to bat only for the pitcher.  In this example the offensive batting order hasn't changed at all.
