Hello from west Tennessee

I am 25 years old and looking to get into umpiring. I have always loved baseball and would like to get back into the game,I've always wanted to be a umpire and was online searching for things to do to get started and stumbled across this great site. Any info to help me out in getting started umpiring would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

A few suggestions:

 

1) Get out your rule book, read it. Re-read it again until you understand a rule and keep this up. Rule 2 (Definitions is an important part of the book....don't skip it.)

 

2) Join your local association(s). 

 

3) Find a respected mentor who you can talk to about umpiring and who can teach you things.

 

4) Go out and watch baseball games, and not to watch the players! Watch the umpires, what they do right and what they do wrong. If they are in your association, ask them if you can attend pre & post game discussions. You will learn a lot and can ask questions why they covered/called a play a certain way.

 

5) Attend a camp or clinic in your area. There is a thread or two on this site about clinics in the Midwest you could drive to. Have fun!
