Another one you don't see everyday.  My question...if it was abandonment, why did he wait for the tag to call him out.  Wouldn't he have been out when he progressed a good distance towards the dugout?

Maybe he needs to try "6 Hour Energy" instead...

I think he was called out for not returning immediately to first after overrunning it, which requires a tag.

You're thinking 7.08(c ). I wouldn't describe it that way: he's simply put out by the defense by being tagged off the base (which requires a tag, of course). Since he did not return immediately to the base, 7.08(c ) EXCEPTION does not apply.

 

Or, he might have missed the base, and the tag constituted an appeal....

 

I think yours is more likely.
