You are going to get older guys who show up for the game see a young guy out there and his mind is already set that he is older and wiser and you are just a rookie. I am 37 and still have to deal with older umps who act like this to me or umps who tell me they do college and act like they are better than me. My advice is to stand up to them and dont let them walk on you. Tell him its my call or I dont need your advice. I had a ump act like this to me last year and I told him when this game is over you and me are going to have a talk that you are not going to enjoy very much. After the game he took off jumped in his car with his gear still on and left.

I wanted to chew the guy out, sadly at that point it seemed a bad idea as I felt my temper was too boiling to have a conversation that was in any way constructive I know if this guy turns up as my partner again i will not be taking his bs same with the coach ,
