I spent a fair amount of time last night watching the MLB draft. For many of the players they had videos of them playing.

When playing the videos I noticed with the HS guys most of the plate umpires looked really solid, they had good mechanics, timing...

But the Base Umpires on the other hand looked pretty bad overall. Positioning issues, appearance, lack of hustle...

Did anybody else notice this? And is this an epidemic among amateur umpires? It sort of took me aback.

Positioning.....lack of hustle......

So, you didn't believe some of my observations, from some regular games I have attended (not the draft you were watching and talking about-sorry) which came from my readings at this website on how to umpire????????????????????Maybe hustling would put them in the wrong position to make the call, and they can do better and get in better position without the hustle from their "prior experiences".  That's all I could figure out.   Or, maybe they were injured, with pulled hamstrings, achilles issues, etc.

I know I'm a very sound technical PU but not so much as BU because I have more experience as a PU because in the early amateur levels only PU's are hired and BU's are only used in higher levels, so I would imagine what you noticed was a gap in experience between PU's and BU's
