Im in B and the runner attempts to steal 2nd...what i do now is this: I step open with my right foot so im now parrell to the flight of the throw..when the ball passes me i turn towards the base with my left foot with the throw and then try to get a step or two to my left...but i still find myself screened by the runner a lot...any suggestions?

I find if I pivot with the ball and take a couple quick steps forward to get beind the throw and pivot right, I can get good angles and can see everything. I don't know know if this is an accepted mechanic, but it works for me.

I work B a little different than most. I work shallower than most, gives me a better look at a pick at first. When I have a steal in progress, I start moving toward second but looking at the throw. I turn with the ball and then step in behind it. No problem seeing the play at second. I started working shallow to see the pick better and I was actually was getting too close at second so it puts me further away so I see better.

My experience exactly. By moving toward the mound, I find I can see a pulled foot and a swipe tag better. When there is a steal attempt, I just move in behind the throw. Easy.

if you are being block by the runner you are too close to first to start out with---the best position is to take is a staight line from the first base side of the plate to the start of the grass on the first base side of the mound mid-way between the pitches rubber and second base. Use the same mechanics you are using now--try it it should open up the view for you.

I gotta diagree with you. I used to work half way between but I wasn't getting a good look at pickoffs, a pulled foot or a swipe tag. Moving a step or two directly in toward the batter gives you a real good angle on these plays.

on a pulled foot or swip tag those are on batted balls--of course we are moving on a batted ball to get the best look---my feet are not planted in the ground --we have to move to gain ground towards the play--but on a steal I was taught in school that the best look at a steal in the two man is to set -up as explained--in the two man we have to make choices --if you have a choice either a great look at second and a so/so look at first or a so/so look at both--I choice a great look at second.

Its hard for me to tell from your description, but you might be turning too late. Your hips turn and you step as soon as you read its an accurate throw. You pull your eyes ahaead of the ball to the base when the ball gets about to you. If you really wait to step with your left when the ball passes you, thats too late.

You move toward second as the ball is in flight. You are moving with your upper body turned toward the ball so it doesn't hit you. Turn with as it gets to you and you will be where you want.
