Learned a New Rule Yesterday

Ok, so maybe that was a little sarcastic.

9-10 year old game last night, batter kept taking his jolly sweet time getting into the box before each pitch - full routine of look at coach, fix batting gloves, get feet set, hold hand up, dig bigger hole for back foot, touch plate with bat.

Finally told the batter that he needs to get his signal and get back into the box and that we arent waiting on him any longer.

After the inning, 3B coach comes across the field to go to dugout and asks what I said to his batter. Told him batter needed to get ready.

*NEW RULE ALERT*

Coach says, "You can't do that, the rule says you have to give him time if he puts his hand up."

I responded with "Ok coach."

He asked me if I knew what he was talking about and I just said "Batter complied and got ready. We're good coach."

He walked away mumbling and grumbling.

Pitcher was getting ready very quickly but the batter still had time to get ready. Definitely wont ever allow a quick pitch. Im probably the king of having to stop a youth pitcher because they get anxious and forget they need a batter and an umpire to play.

Batter didnt have a problem. Batter's the one hitting haha

Since you learned a new rule, I'd like to share what I learned on Monday. R1, grounder to F5 who throws ball into DBT. R1 gets home. I was really thickheaded though and left R2 and R3. Same thing happened next inning and again I was stubborn. OC and fans really let me hear it. I will be attending the "Base Awards for Dummies" clinic giving by 40 year old moms of players who were cheated. Guest speaker will be the 25 y/o coach who got his parents in an uproar.

Yeah I've had a stealing R1 in that situation where he is almost to 3B when ball goes out of play. A simple (yet stern) "2 bases from time of pitch, Coach" normally backs them and the fans off - followed by an "Oh ok great" or an affirmation nod of 'this guy knows the rules.'

Ok, a guy can dream, cant he?

You can speed that kid up by NOT giving time and calling a strike.  IMO, that routine crap is best seen on TV.

Of course.  I've only had to do that once and it was a 16u game where the kid kept asking for time and I finally had enough as I felt he was holding up the game.
