On two forums, hbk314 has posted AD NAUSEUM about this.  I just wonder why he CARES so much.

I was somewhere over the Atlantic when this play happened and I'm flying back from the UK in the morning.  Thankfully, I was out of town when all of this happened.

So?

It was that bad.

Would I have been as aggressive with it if different teams had been involved? Probably not. But I was watching live when it happened because of the teams involved.

I have only stayed with because you just don't seem able to even entertain the possibility that WI has some blame in the fiasco. You are adamant that it was all the officials. In actuality it was a combination.

We aren't discussing the players in this forum. Nor would I consider what Wisconsin did nearly as important, even a sliver as important, as the crew's mishandling of that last play.

but once you hit high school, it gets pretty serious and it shouldn't be a mystery why.

I would say that collegiate athletics should be taken pretty serious. Often times for the coach that is their full time job. They coach to feed their families.

I'm going to guess that maybe 90% or greater high school athletes stop playing sports when they graduate high school. #itsstilljustagame

This thread has run its course.

I'm not talking about city school or high schools within small population centers. I'm talking about big suburban and private schools that send multiple kids to college (whether it be D1, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO) in multiple sports each year. Plus, coaches do have jobs on the line, albeit usually not full-time jobs, but jobs nevertheless.

The kids who really don't care or have no aspirations to play beyond HS usually aren't playing for competitive Varsity teams or any Varsity team for that matter, regardless of sport.

I live in Central Ohio and we have places like Pickerington, Dublin, Upper Arlington, New Albany, Hillard, etc. with populations consisting of 30,000+ people. As you can imagine, winning and losing is a pretty big deal.

Not nearly as serious as college, but the amount of schools that send kids to play sports in college is probably greater than you think.

Certainly we discuss players here. Many times blown calls or unusual rule interps are directly tied to players screwing up. If the players play in the manner expected this thread never happens. Also, hbk314 has repeated said the players did nothing wrong, it was all the officials. I have on the other hand allowed that the officials made mistakes, and certainly contributed to the mess, but WI did did some of the oddest end of game actions that precipitated the mess. The only ones that didn't contribute was the defense.

I agree with Matt. The officials have to officiate when the players screw up and are still judged by how well that deal it.

Agreed, and evidently so did the conference because they were sanctioned, but players doing weird things make crews react differently, sometimes incorrectly.
