The other day - U12 game.  After being called out at 1B, offensive player begins throwing equipment in the dugout.   It was obnoxious enough that it got everyone's attention, including my partner and I's, so the player was ejected.

 

Now the 3B coach, their manager, comes down the line and begins arguing the ejection with my partner, stating that he couldn't be sure which player it was. Partner shuts it down and sends him back to 3B coaching box.  On his way back, 3B coach starts up the argument with me about the call at 1st, stating how horrible it was, etc.  I told him that's enough and he retorted with "See what you caused!"  Walked off the field without issue, and later I found out he went up and told the TD and UIC how wrong he was and apologized for the player's behavior and his own. I swear I had to be dreaming at that point!

I have had many coaches, some I have had to eject, later apolgize to me for their actions. I get it, it can get emotional and competitive.

Take the good with the bad. I always remain the gentleman and shake their hand and tell them I appreciate their honesty.

That is good that he apologized. I had a situation where I had an incident report about a coach who was really upset about a few ball/strike calls. His coaches agent called my UIC and told him I had a problem.

Take the good with the bad. I always remain the gentleman and shake their hand and tell them I appreciate their honesty.

 

Happened to me this past weekend at a tournament.  Coach was being a pain all weekend.  A couple of close calls went against him.  I'm PU he makes a mound visit,  I say 2 times "Coach lets wrap it up"  he ignores me, I walk about 8 steps toward the mound and stop there as I know he's baiting me, look to my partner and he knows it to.  A third time I say loudly "Coach!"  I want him to come to me to say whatever he's going to say to allow the parents behind me to get a good listen.  He walks by me toward the dugout and says quietly "That was a F?%#in horrible call, a F?%#in horrible !!"  I took off my mask and calmly said "you you're gone" turned and walked behind the plate and he walked away.

 

After the game he walks past me in the parking lot .....

 

Coach - Sorry

Me - OK

Coach - What, you don't accept my apology?

Me - Yes I do, you said what you said and you needed to be ejected

Coach - I know

 

He shook my hand and walked away.

I was kind of surprised he had an agent. This was 8u level.

In a "just me and him" conversation I probably wouldn't have ejected a HS head coach for saying this. In a youth league, he's gone.
