Help Needed

Let me be clear. I do not know you from a can of paint, you could be a retired MLB umpire with 4 World Series rings and you could be a Pony League rookie. Either way, every thread that your inolved in becomes a disconent filled dialouge. Personally, I do not care what logic or game management you apply in your games, I do care about your lack of accepting others opinions besides your own.

 

No worries, I won't reply after this, so please save your key strokes.

 

First off not every thread I am involved in becomes "discontent filled dialogue", only some of them.  If you went back and looked it's probably far fewer than half of them actually.

 

The problem as I see it is that on this board I'm expected to accept ALL other opinions.  I accept plenty.  I've accepted the boards consensus on "the neighborhood play".  I've accepted the boards opinion on several aspects of situations where I should have run a manager.  I've accepted the boards advice on many balks that I've called that I should not have.  But I'm also not a "yes, sir" soldier that does what he's told without any thought process.  I need to be convinced of things.  I questions things.  Some don't seem to like that.

Have you thought of officiating another ‘Milder†sport for some extra money until you go full time teaching? My brother in law calls lacrosse and make more per game that me with less gear and headaches.

 

Baseball/softball is just not for you if you umpire the same way you interact here on this forum.

 

The tournament ball you call in the St. Louis is just a “Wal-Mart†tournament league lining 2 guys’ pockets. (I checked)

Don’t judge you performance on how well you are doing there. It is a “warm body’ program.

 

You will get eaten alive in real HS, ASA or any other a well-run association.

You've stated this opinion earlier and I've respectfully disagreed.  I worked the past few months with a much more reputable association in St. Louis.  I've done several American Legion games, as well as many higher level travel ball tournaments for them.  I've worked games with the association vice-president who has done college ball.  In no way have they shied away from giving me more games after watching me work.  I am a work in progress for sure, but just because I don't bow to the experienced umpires on this board like many of the less experienced umpires does not mean doing this is not for me.  I've worked with many high school certified umpires in the so-called Wal-Mart Tournament and in legion games.  Many of them are no better than me in any aspect.  Some of them are far more unsure of themselves than I am.

 

My experience has been that it's ludicrous, at least where I live, to consider "giving this up" because everyone I work for tells me the exact opposite of what you tell me.  And they see, they don't just read my posts.

Sometimes, it is best to accept the words of others, silently digest the advice, and continue to do as you choose wthout engaging in a debate on the virtues or drawbacks of either your viewpoint or some one else's divergent view.

 

Often, simply thanking some one for their thoughts will earn your far more credibility and good will than anything else you might say, especially if you do not hold a similar opinion.
