This happen friday night

Fed - R2 on first, R1 on second, B3 hits a line drive to right center. When the ball reaches the fence F9 raises his hands that the ball got caught underneath the screening attached to the fence. U1 calls dead ball...F9 immediately picks the ball up which makes it look like it did not get caught under the fence. OC is losing his mined that the ball was never out of play, that the F9 intentionally raised his hands to stop the runners from advancing. How do you award bases if:

A - F9 did intentionally lie that the ball was under the screen

B - the ball did go under the screen

in both cases R2 was passed second base and R1 was passed third before the hands were raised?

In short, U1 screwed up. In these situations, you let the runners continue to run while the base umpire starts jogging out to the ball. If he determines the ball was out of play or lodged, the runners are awarded two bases from TOP. If the umpire judges the ball wasn't OOP or lodged, runners get what they got (most likely scored).
