This is for you guys on here who dwell on the dark side. I used to coach years ago and am a pretty good BP pitcher, can hit ground balls with the best of them but have never really been any good at hitting fly balls to outfielders.

 

Yesterday I was doing a LL Senoirs DH and between innings the VC would go over to the right field foul line with a tennis racket. When I first saw him I was like WTF is he going to do with that. He was swatting baseballs with it and hitting perfect fly balls to the outfielders with ease. I thought it was pretty neat and will use it if I ever decide to cross over again. Thought I would share it here in case somebody else sucks as bad as I do at hitting flys to their players.

I struggled hitting flyballs to the outfield, of course I did as a player too, but as a coach I could not hit a ball to right field. I had to turn around and bat left handed.

Anyone who can hit foul pop ups to a catcher with a fungo bat has the right to brag!  Very difficult.  It's not good enough to just get the ball in the air over home plate.  You have to put the right spin on them, or it's not the right kind or practice.

Geez, it's not enough I have to be aware as to not be a Smitty umpire, now your telling me I can be a Smitty coach too, if I'm not careful.

I'm pretty sure it was a tennis racket but what do I know I've never played tennis in my life.

Brag on, I can hit grounder and fly balls right where I want them but cannot hit those catcher popups. Just had to throw it.
