So my 18 yr old kid was base ump tonight at a freshmen game. Following a tense play at home, a close play with a train wreck but no malicious contact, an African-American player was next to bat. My son was base ump, standing near the shortstop, who then uttered "let's get this n****** out".

Does it get any more automatic than that?

BOOM. Not a word was said by the coach. In fact, the player's dad came up to him after the game - to ask him what the kid said so he can 'take care of him' at home. Someone's not having a great night tonight.

So now I get to help him with the required reports to the state and AD! He did his job, didn't shy away from doing the right thing even though he's still in high school himself. Not a happy situation, but proud of the way he handled it and didn't shy away from doing what needed to be done.

And my game was an 1:20 JV game, 1-0 with the only score coming from the last batter with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. Kids were swinging like it was a getaway day. But I digress....

Good for your boy.  No hesitation, no warning and more importantly, no pretending he didn't hear it.  Please keep us updated (if you know) what the penalty is for the SS.  I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if they DQ'd him for the remainder of the season.

Wow! Not sure what your association / league policies are, but the kid better be looking at a double-digit game suspension.

No, the father should give that double-digit game suspension, and if he will not, the coach should in addition to whatever the league gives.

Whatever punishment I got at school was doubled at home, and if school did nothing, I still got double or nothing anyway.
