Stay away from iX3!!!!! My heart stopped once when I first started on a hit to the chest. Threw it in the garbage.

Bryan,

I understand you're new, but if you're going to do anything with ANY type of speed for pitching, I'd really stay away from a soft-shell chest protector.  Please listen to the advice you'll get here, or what you'll read from other threads about protecting your heart, ok?!

What type of baseball do you call currently and what are your aspirations?  The advice you're going to get is "buy Pro level equipment" and at the very least, "hardshell!"

Budget:

Champion P hardshells 13-15-17" sizes

WIlson Charcoal

Quality:

All-Star System 7

Douglas

Wilson Gold

Wilson Platinum

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Ok then, DEFINATELY hard-shell .......

I just went to the equipment forum, and did a search ....check out all the stuff people discuss about different CPs.   When you have narrowed it down, check out umpire retailers, especially Ump-Attire.com ..............   :D

I was in same exact position as you last week, and researched it extensively.  Best deal on the web for a hard shell Champion (which i found to have the best reviews for a budget chest protector) is by this ebay seller:

Go with the Champion, on eBay,  is your best bet.

There's a guy selling the Champion P200, P210, and P220 for x amount, or Best Offer. Offer him $5 under his asking amount, and he'll take it.

That's $42 shipped to your house. I've got several of these I bought for my LL park.

Other that that model, which is a bargain, my next recommendation would be to save up for pro gear. But for the money, this Champion can't be beat.
