First Impressions

Today I worked two games with a partner I never worked with before.

I was assigned the plates.

Emailed him Thursday and stated I wanted to wear MLB Blue.

Responded right back say good, thanks for the early notification and that he will be there 40 minutes before the game.

I am at the TD Table 30 minutes early and no partner at table nor did I see him in the parking lot.

10 minutes before game time I call him and ask where he is.

Says he is in parking lot and coming in.

I advise him to hurry because they are ahead of schedule and we could start the game right away.

He comes running in and we get on the field.

He is wearing GREY RUNNING Shoes and he had stains on his shirt.

Ok I think this is going to be a long day.

First game no problems except I didn't feel he was paying enough attention to my signaling and didn't know if he seen them or not.

We discussed this between games and he said he would pay closer attention.

He did fix it in second game.

I also told him he needs to get black umpire shoes ASAP.

 

Otherwise his positioning and rotations were ok but can be improved on.

 

Was glad it wasn't a disaster of a day as I expected.

After the last game he said, you have the best strike zone I have ever worked with.

My biggest peeve, especially when assigned to work base is a partner who doesn't show up at LEAST 15 minutes (preferably a half hour) before a game.  While I understand on occasion life happens, for example i was calling a game in another city about 45 minutes away, and the highway between had 2 of the 3 lanes closed due to a tractor trailer roll over and I barely made the plate meeting.  That and partners who have an apathetic attitude.... drives me nuts, at least your partner seemed willing to take some suggestions

Law of averages. When you work 300+ a year your bound to get some bad ones.
